More transparency, safety first!

The Automotive Laboratory

CTL® GmbH – Automobile Laboratory has been working as a renowned and efficient, accredited testing laboratory for many years.

We are known for our competent advice and customer-oriented work.

A variety of test procedures and practical system solutions are part of our offer to you as a valued customer.

It goes without saying that we work on schedule and process orders quickly and easily.

Scope of testing

  • Leisurewear

  • Professional clothing/ work wear

  • Children's/baby's clothing

  • Outdoor clothing

  • Technical fabrics

Flammability

This test method is used to determine the horizontal burning speed of materials used in the interior of motor vehicles (flame spread speed measured in mm/min).

Emission

This test determines the emission (evaporation) of organic compounds from non-metallic materials. The sum of all values is obtained after gas chromatographic separation and detection with a flame ionisation detector using the head-space technique (total carbon content measured in mg C/g).

Colour fastness

A textile sample is treated in contact with accompanying fabrics in the appropriate solutions, dried and the change in colour and bleeding of the accompanying materials against grey scale or blue scale is visually assessed.

Strengths

This test method is used to determine the tensile strength and elongation at break. The data is determined by stretching the test specimens at a constant speed until they tear.

Fogging

This test is used to assess the volatility of organic constituents on materials used in motor vehicle interiors on the basis of DIN 75201. Volatility is understood to be the transfer of volatile constituents at elevated temperatures into the surrounding air, thus leading to precipitation (clouding) on, e.g. windscreens.

Odour test

Evaluation of the odour behaviour of materials of the vehicle interior under the influence of temperature and climate for a defined test duration.

Climate change test

The aim is to simulate the practical climatic stress of materials through the interaction of temperature, time and humidity. Test parameters such as colour and structural changes are evaluated.

Dimensional changes

Determination of dimensional changes (shrinkage, elongation) caused by various forms of treatment, e.g. exposure to water, heat and mechanics.

Static elongation

Determination of static and permanent elongation of materials of the vehicle interior under defined load and time conditions.
